Creating more excitement for polo enthusiasts in the West African sub region, the Eko Atlantic in collaboration with Lagos Polo Club is set to host the first polo tournament in West Africa to hold at Eko Atlantic in Lagos State.
Beach polo debuted in 2004 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and the following year the game took to the beaches of South Beach Miami and has continued to grow in popularity ever since.
A growing new audience has the ability to combine a day at polo with a day on some of the most beautiful beaches in the world while maintaining the glamour of the sport.
The growing number of worldwide beach polo events have aided in exposing the sport of polo to a new audience in a fun and exciting fashion. Eko Atlantic will be no exception.
The event will be held over three days,from tomorrow Thursday, March 19, 2015 to Sunday, March 22 and a number of Nigerian teams will participate in a round robin tournament.
This allows for a wide variety of opponents and each team can be equally as involved as opposed to a knock out competition. Each of the four teams in the pools would progress to the finals, which would take place on the final day, pool winners will compete for the main cup, runners up would play for the plate, third place will play for the bowl, and the last place will play for the shield.
The Eko Atlantic Beach Polo Tournament Arena will sit on approximately 42,000 square metres of land located directly off Eko Boulevard, a paved 8-lane thoroughfare that is over a mile long and is the spine of the Business District. This selection will provide a spacious location with paved road access that will also be used for guest parking throughout the event.
Entrance to the Eko Atlantic Beach Polo Tournament will be strictly by invitation. An invitation will be printed for each day of play to ensure guest numbers are controlled and avoid overcrowding with a maximum of 1,000 invites being distributed for each day of play. These companies range from oil and gas, manufacturing, agriculture, real estate, banking and finance, telecommunications and several other notable industries.
